2022 Laureate Students Gala

At the end of the year, Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy appreciated students and resident doctors who excelled in their academic achievements, scientific work as well as in various extracurricular activities. The Laureate Students Gala 2022, now in its 10th edition, was organized by the Association of Medical Students and Residents of Moldova on December 21.
Traditionally, at the opening of the celebration, rector Emil Ceban delivered a speech highlighting the performances of medical and pharmacy students. Among them are obtaining the President, Government, and the Republic Scholarships, organizing the International Medical Congress of Students and Young Doctors MedEspera 2022, solidarity actions for Ukrainian refugees, information campaigns and flash mobs. At the same time, they participated in numerous actions with social impact such as: blood donation campaigns, promoting a healthy lifestyle, training high school students on providing emergency medical aid, taking part in tree planting campaigns, organizing visits to the hospitalized children etc. Moreover, the medical students have achieved outstanding results at numerous interuniversity, national and international sports competitions.
Finally, the rector congratulated the students and colleagues on Christmas and New Year, wishing them health, luck and happiness, love and self-confidence, success in all forms of activity and a peaceful and prosperous New Year.
"We have very good students at the University, most of them are highly successful, because they have a motivation for their chosen profession and, of course, they see their role in the health system. Dear students, we watch you with great admiration and understand that the main advantage is your youth, as youth faces everything, opens new horizons, conquers new heights. We wish you in the New Year and throughout your life to realize all your dreams, to become successful professionals and to never forget your Alma Mater", specified the first vice-rector Olga Cernetchi, vice-rector for didactic activity, who handed out the awards in the Studies category to the following laureates:

Sanal Kumar Abhinand Sanal Kumar Thankappan, 6th year student, Faculty of Medicine no. 2;
Adriana Mindru, 5th year student, Faculty of Stomatology;
Zinaida Grecinskii, 4th year student, Optometry specialty;
Maria Mocanu, 6th year student, Preventive Medicine specialty;
Irina Iordan, 4th year student, Nursing specialty;
Ana Morar, 5th year student, Faculty of Pharmacy.
Academician Stanislav Groppa, vice-rector for research activity, mentioned the laureates in the Research and Innovation category, noting that at the University several research centers and laboratories are being established, which will offer unlimited possibilities to know the world, the universe, the human body and to become excellent doctors. The vice-rector reviewed the initiation of beneficial international collaborations with ICGEB, the Leibniz institutes, etc., which offer new opportunities to students, resident doctors and doctoral students. "Due to research, we are moving forward, we are entering the coming year, we will move toward peace and toward another level of approach to thinking and interpersonal relations", emphasized the vice-rector.

"We are proud that medical students hold the first place among colleagues from other universities both in terms of academic achievements and organization of scientific events. You are the best and you are an example to follow. We count a lot on your intelligence, creativity, and perseverance. We want you to become highly competent specialists in the field of health, promoters of a healthy lifestyle and people of high moral culture and civic responsibility", emphasized rector Emil Ceban, who handed out the awards in the Organizational Skills category to:

Minister of Health Ala Nemerenco awarded prizes in the Volunteering for Peace category. The official highlighted the fact that "young people can change this country. What is happening this year is a window of extraordinary opportunity, through which our partners are helping us. Certainly, volunteering requires a pure soul, deep emotions and a big heart".

In the current edition, the category Promoter of Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy was launched. In the opinion of Victoriei Cravet, vice-rector for economic and financial activity, "we feel quite emotional at this beautiful sum-up event because in front of us are the students who, despite the fact that they have multiple activities during the academic year, manage to participate in volunteering, sports and cultural activities, and when the University management launches the message to become the University promoters, they are the ones who get immediately involved. They represent the most convincing example for potential study candidates, succeeding in everything they do due to the fact that they are well organized, disciplined, they are the ones who want to help both their loved ones and the entire population".

For his part, vice-rector for social activity, Marcel Abras, expressed his gratitude to the best students and resident doctors, who managed during the academic year to study well, to be united for better and for worse, to organize nice events, as well as to stay together in the context of regional problems, hosting refugees. "And at the same time, you found time for other extracurricular, cultural and sports activities. We are grateful to you for carrying the University’s flag with honor and promoting its image in such a way that other bright young people will follow you", the vice-rector mentioned.

The Professional Development category is also a new one. In this context, director of the Oncological Institute Ruslan Baltaga specified that the nominated laureates work as nurses and have very high academic achievements. In addition to their professional activity, they are also involved in helping refugees from Ukraine, who suffer from cancer.
For his part, Andrei Uncuta, director of Timofei Mosneaga Republican Clinical Hospital, emphasized that his institution represents the clinical base of several university departments. "Scientific and practical activity is carried out in partnership with university departments and clinics. Here we work every day, side by side, in a friendly atmosphere, we have a very good cooperation which creates beneficial conditions for everyone - students, resident doctors and hospital employees, constituting an additional motivation for professional growth".

Aurel Popovici, president of Sanatatea Trade Union Federation, who also attended the Gala, wished great success to both students and resident doctors, urging them to stay in the country and work in the local medical system, because "our future and the development of the health system depend on them."

Finally, rector of Aurel Vlaicu Arad University, Romania, Prof. Ramona Lile, guest of honor at the event, conveyed the greetings of her Romanian colleagues: "I am convinced that soon you will be in the European Union and, respectively, with us. We are still waiting for the teaching staff, students and resident doctors to come to Arad based on the partnership we signed with your university in order to be able to make this collaboration fruitful".
60 students and resident doctors were mentioned at the 2022 Laureate Student Gala. The event took place in an emotional atmosphere, with good music, carols, and greetings.
